Antiacid medicine

Hi

Does anybody know whether I should syn Gaviscon Advance? I get bad reflux which burns my throat and I need to take this at regular intervals for about a week when I get a flare up. It is sugar free, but still not sure whether I should allow any syns for it?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I think not as my doc always tells me it's not actually absorbed into your body.

You're welcome - I suffered from very bad reflux to the point where the skin in my throat was eaten away by the acid. I had an operation to stop the reflux a few months ago and it's changed my life. It really is so horrible to deal with, isn't it?

It is indeed truly awful. At the moment my throat is soooo sore. I don't get heartburn or anything, it's like I don't know it's happening until the damage is done and then it takes a few weeks on tablets and the Gaviscon for it to calm down again. I would be too scared to have the op though, I'm terrified of hospitals. I assume that as you had the op, the tablets didn't work for you?

The tablets didn't work for me at all. and the stronger ones - the omeprazole and so on made my hair fall out. In my case, they were able to diagnose that there was a physical problem with the top of my stomach and since the op corrected that it feels great - I haven't taken a single antacid since waking up from the op, not so much as a Rennie. My throat used to be so sore, like I'd poured battery acid down it.
