Calories!!! How important are they??

As a serial diet 'cheater' (although I always try to kid myself I stay within the 'rules'), I know that if I launch into an Atkins eating plan now that I am close to target without putting any restrictions on calories, I will go horribly overboard on nuts, mayonnaise, bacon, eggs, avocados etc etc. - all of the nice things that are low carbs but I could easily see myself hitting 3000 calories a day. Do any of you seasoned Atkiners try to watch the calories or is it second nature now? I know that the theory is that the protein food keeps you fuller for longer without the need to pick but I eat through boredom mainly, not real hunger so I can easily hoover up a bag of nuts or SF jelly and cream. Surely there muct come a point when the calories begin to count and if so, where has it happened for you?
Grateful for any info
xx

Hi board, I've never bothered counting calories since I started on Atkins, it's the carbs I count. :)

Another 'I don't really think about calories' here too - been there, got the T shirt, and it doesn't work in the long term, just end up feeling hungry, miserable and fat!

Thanks for that, I guess it's a different way of thinking about food and eating that will take a bit of time to get my head around after a lifetime of calorie counting

I don't count calories but sometimes I count the points of what I have eaten just out of curiosity and it is usually less than I used to manage on WW and I was always hungry doing ww. You are not allowed nuts in induction which helps I think - because like you I could eat a whole bag which might be 1000 calories

That put it in a nutshell Anna, on WW I always felt, hungry, miserable and fat, just as you described.
