How do you eat Scan Bran?

After 6 months on SW I still havn't tried it & Im thinking maybe I should buy some at my next class.

Im not sure what ways to eat it so that it doesnt taste as horrible as lots of people in my class say :p

I don't like the scan bran eaten as it is as a "crisp bread" but I've tried a few recipes from the SW website such as chocolate cake and trifle! - Couldn't give you the recipe off hand but check out the website?

Your consultant ought to be able to give you a few tips on how to use it - others in my group have apparently added it into savoury and sweet dishes to add "fibre" and "bulk" - have to admit I've been a bit skeptical to experiment too much. My consultant doesn't ever have any in group anyway, but you can buy it in some health food shops.

I'll check out this thread to see if anyone has any new suggestions.

Good luck'n'stuff.

I eat one scan bran a day. It doesnt taste too good on its own but i have some with my HEB of cereal. Some cereals you can have 28g with 1 scan. I have this with a mullerlight or another free yoghurt on top and sometimes with fruit too (it tastes better mixed with other ingredients)

I also make the scan bran cakes alot. My fave is probably the Chocolate one which is 9 1/2syns for the whole cake.

Hope this helps.

If I feel like I'm struggling to go I soften two pieces of scan bran with some boiling water and mix through a tbsp of nutella- it's five syns but gives you a chocolate kick and does the trick!

I like a cake one of the ladies in my class made and only 3 syns for whole thing (and yes, I've been known to eat it all in one day!)!

5 Scan Brans
1 Egg
4 Tablespoons of Muller Light Vanilla yogurt.
5 Heaped Tablespoons of Sweetener
½ Teaspoon of baking powder
1½ Tablespoons of Sweet Mincemeat

This should be a B choice plus 3 syns for the Sweet Mincemeat

Poor boiling water over the Scan Brans and leave for 1 min to soften. Drain off any surplus water and then mash up with a fork until all the lumps have gone.

Add the egg and bind.

Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.

Place in microwaveable container and microwave on high for 9 ½ mins.

Let it cool down before turning upside down and HOPEFULLY it will just come out.

Sctoch eggs! With Eat Smart sausages! 1/2 a syn per Scotch egg compared to 7.5 for a normal one! Quite tasty too!

Hiya - I persevered & got used to it with cottage cheese but I also make tons of other stuff with it:

Sticky Toffee Cake
Chocolate Scan Bran Cake
Curly Wurly Scan Bran Cake
Scotch Eggs
Chicken Nuggets
Chicken Kiev
Breaded (scan bran) fish

If you need any recipes I did have a thread on the recipe section but there is also a big scan bran feature on the SW website - it is well worth geting used to if you can because it has really helped me speed up my weight loss.

does it really keep you regular?

is it much different from rivita ?

Yes it does - seriously - though I would advise not to have 2 servings of it a day if you have to be somewhere the following day............

I really know when I haven't eaten enough of it each week

Love the sound it of Stacey but I cant eat the mullers as Im vegetarian :(

No worries - just use any free vanilla yogurt. It should still work out fine!

These sound GOOD!!! Ill have a look on the site too, didn't realise there was some info there, thanks x

I can only eat 2 a day otherwise they tend to 'bung' up my innards - but 2 are just enough for me, so I usually have them at lunch time with cottage cheese, quark, scrambled eggs anything that is soft to help the Scan Bran down - I have to say that they do have a bit of a nutty taste to them, but they are an acquired taste.

At group last week a lady talked about layering 2 broken scan bran, frozen forest fruits (or any fruit really) and muller light yoghurt then leaving it in the fridge overnight.
Ive since done this twice and its good. I eat half for breakfast and the rest as a snack when i get home from work.
I can use my hex b later in the day.
I need help in the keeping regular dept and scan bran certainly does :)

talking about scan bran, if you are doing a cake and it calls for scan bran, could you use rivita instead?
