Blending Shakes

Hi day one on SS for me today after finally getting a doctor to sign my form for me!

I have a small problem in that I have only taken sachets of the shakes this week as i thought that i could shake them but they don't shake very well and end up lumpy. Obviously at home i will you an electric blender but I start work at 6.30am and need to take one to work so any ideas anyone......is there a battery powered, fairly quiet blender out there anywhere?

Thanks Polly x

 Thanks Shelley, that will be handy as I'm a Stock Controller......for Sainsburys!

I have also got a shaker beaker. It has a 'grid' at the top, so when you shake the lumps break up. I use that when I am out and about - burns off a few calories with that shaking too :D

You could always get tetras for work as well.

i use a smoothie maker and blend with ice! its delicious!
Depending on how much ice you use, you either get a frappacino or a slush puppy!!!
YUM!

The best type of mixer i've found is a 'blender bottle'. If you google it you will find a few places selling them. The best value is a website called 'my protein'. In the accessory section on the site. They are less than £4 delivered!!

I still find the shakes can be lumpy (maybe i don't shake hard enough!!) so i pour them through a tiny sieve!! A bit of a pain to do but a smooth shake is sooo much nicer!!

I also do early shifts (for Asda!!) and have been having a bar in my break. Means i have time to have a coffee as well! I couldn't mix a shake, drink it AND have a coffee so i decided to give the bars a try!! You do need to drink more water with the bars (and are not meant to have them in the first two weeks), but they are really convenient.

Or you could try the ready mixed cartons. Not tried them so can't comment!!

Good luck whatever you do! It's a great diet!!

Littlemonstersmum -- may I ask what capacity blender bottle you use? Just been looking at some that hold different amounts - 500ml, 700ml etc. How much is a Cambridge shake when it's made up (i.e. how much water do you add?)

You add just over 200ml of water so the 500ml one is fine. Easier to fit in your handbag as well!!

If i remember rightly the 700ml version is cheaper.

Swings and roundabouts....

I have got one of the original 'blendabottles' from Lakeland and also one of the cheaper copy versions from my protein. Both are (to me) exactly the same. Easy to use, easy to wash and can go in the dishwasher!

One thing to bear in mind is that the bottle is a bit noisy to use and also it rattles when you carry it in your bag!! I've got round this by folding my sachet and putting it into the bottle. Stops the mixing 'ball' from moving around and making a noise!!

Thanks for all the great suggestions girls. I think that the blendbottle sounds quite interesting and I may invest in one. I think in the future as far as work goes i will either remember to get tetras or take a bar as suggested. This morning I cocked up completely as I was half asleep when i grabbed a sachet of shake to take with me and was half way through shaking it when it occurred to me that it looked strange.......it was chicken and mushroom soup -LOL I had to microwave it!

Ooops!! That sounds exactly the kind of thing i'd do! I took one in to work the other day and in my head it was chocolate. Didn't even look at the pack as i poured it into my blender bottle!! I still thought it was chocolate flavour until i saw it wasn't brown and smelt of banana!! Wally!!

Now i leave the sachet out the night before - and look at it so i know what i'm getting!!

Early mornings are not good.... but i do love having my afternoons free!! :D

i only have choc shake or chicken and mush soup so packet is blue or pink, touch wood ive managed ok so far lol xxx

Littlemonstersmum, you are a genius!!! I managed to get a blender bottle from Lakeland plastic and it works an absolute treat:) So no problems with shaking my soup now:eek: I will take your lead and check it the night before rather than groping around for one at 4 in the morning and getting it wrong!

Cheers, Polly x

I do think they're great! Any funny looks/comments from work colleagues (if you do take it in with you!) will soon disappear along with the lbs!!

Just remember not to try and mix anything with hot water - it will cause a pressure build up and 'explode'. Not to mention being too hot to hold and shake properly!!

Enjoy :D
