Do you think it's possible to lose weight but not actually lose fat? I've lost 31lbs and honestly cannot see much of a difference, may it be water weight, or muscle? or something?
arghh!!

That sounds strange, im not sure if it is possible or not, do you have before and after pictures you can compare?? Or maybe that we can compare??
I do remember that the previous time i lost weight i didnt notice myself either, but everybody around me could see it clearly that i had lost weight.

If you truly havent changed, maybe its a good idea to visit a doctor?

Adele I have lost over 30lbs and can't see any difference either - and neither can anyone else including my husband.

I think when you have a LOT to lose, like I do, then it takes more to make a difference to how you look unfortunately. I think I'm going to have to lose between four and five stone before I see any difference. Also, clothes in bigger sizes have a bigger difference than the smaller sizes. The difference between a size 10 and 12 is only about an inch an a half. The difference between a 20 and 22 is about three and a half inches. So when you are bigger you stay at the same size for longer. Which may explain why it was so easy to pile on the weight... I didn't see it going on.

Hi all,

I'm the same. I have lost 4 stone now and have only just started to see/feel a difference. I have also only gone down 1 dress size and couldn't understand why/how. Thanks Guru on that info about dress size's i never knew that there was a bigger difference in the plus sizes. roll on size 18, though i must say i don't even have a size 20, but that's through fear of not wanting to try on a smaller size and it not fitting, so i will just stick to my lose size 22's for a little while longer.

I've lost around 40lbs now and I too was losing weight but not seeing much size difference for aaages. Though I felt better in myself and I could feel small differences. For me the drop in dress size happened when I started hitting the gym a couple of times a week.

It happens in wierd fits and spurts. You can lose loads of weight and see no change in size and then suddenly drop a dress size whilst losing no weight. I think our bodies just like to confuse us - it's their revenge on us for not giving them cake.

When I lost a lot of weight last time (I've done it 3 times now!) I remember how incensed I was because I had lost 3 stone and NO ONE had noticed!
Possibly, also your clothes are a reason..
The whole reason we wear the clothes we do is that they HIDE us and they are obviously doing their job really well for you at the moment .. but remember
beneath those clothes you are shrinking, and think of the impact it will make when you finally emerge like a butterfly!!.
After the first 4 or 5 stone (when you can't wear the same clothes anymore because they have fallen off you!) people notice when you lose much smaller amounts.. also because I think you start to dress differently and clothes start to add to how you look, not just make your body blend in to the background.

Just know you're well on your way to knocking their socks off!!

Thats really good words, Juno :)

People seem to notice it in my face more than anywhere else.... They always say my face looks slimmer, which means I must have had a right chubby face...!!

Know that feeling dropped 6 stone last year and no one noticed and I only lost 2 dress sizes damm was peed off - I had to actually tell people - then they would say oh yeah your face is slimmer :(:(

my doc keeps telling me its all to do with body shape and how the fat is layed out on you.

I lost most of mine off my backside and face and arms but my tummy only lost an inch

I always think that people being so unobservant protected me whilst I was getting bigger, and it's bound to get in the way on the way down.

I remember a friend who got their braces off their teeth after 4 long years, smiling and smiling at everyone, and no one working out what was different!

People start telling you you look really well about now in your journey, as I recall. Smile and be mysterious!

Too true!!
I lost it from my head down, and at one point I looked EXACTLY like a pear! Size 10 on top and size 18 thighs!

..But the good news is it all wanders about and sorts itself out and you end up all in proportion again.. Thank goodness!

Hee hee, yes I did it the other way round last time. My shoes stopped fitting but my bra cup size got bigger and bigger. Really frustrating my shoes and watch were falling off me but dress sizes took ages to drop down. But worth it in the end. As I put the weight back on it all went round my middle and diddn't spread to my feet and wrist though... peculiar. One of lifes great mysteries - but the good thing was that as I'd last all the peripheral weight when it did come off my middle it did seem to go quite fast and I was forever needing smaller sizes it seems. Now I'm aiming to get back into all those smaller sizes and I'll through away the bigger sizes so it's not so easy to fall into bad habits.

Update on this. I've now lost 50lbs and people ARE starting to notice. I've had to buy smaller clothes and that has made all the difference.

YAY Guru!!!! :talk017:

You must be over the moon!

Go and find something that weighs 50lbs and try and pick it up..
12(ish) 2 kg bags of sugar all at once.
That is how much you aren't carrying around anymore!

Well done!
