Back from my adventure in the Himalayas

DiscPete

Motivated by you lot!
Hi all,

I got back from my trip about a week and a half ago, went straight to see my family in Wales then made my way back to Belfast last week.

I am amazed to have found that I didn't put on a single pound while I was away, and I made a concerted effort to eat and drink everything while I was there!

I guess it was because it was a fairly physical adventure mixed with heat and altitude, plus I drank plenty of water.

Since getting back to the UK, I have had a bout of 'Delhi belly' almost the whole time I have been home, thankfully I was OK over there, and it seems to be getting better each day. Because of that, I lost about half a stone in the time since I returned. Not the best way to lose weight, but I'll take it as a kickstart for the rest of my diet.

I have decided not to go straight on the TFR until I feel better but I am doing the maintenance regime until then.

As for the trip, some of it was tough going (it was an enduro event after all!) and uncomfortable, but I loved every minute of it and would do it again in a heartbeat. I love the scenery, the country - it's people and culture, the bike riding, the support team who looked after us and a fantastic group of new friends that I now have.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it was life-changing, but it was definitely perception changing.

Below is a picture of me standing about 50 metres above the highest motorable pass in the world...

Hi Pete, Sounds like you had a great time. Congrats on not gaining any weight whilst on holiday -no mean feat!

Check your bad self out!! lol

Well done and may I say, only overweight people think like we do - I too think that diarrhea is a step in the right direction! :D

Well done and GOOD LUCK!

I've deffo got wanderlust, me & The Himalayas / Nepal / Tibet are deffo on my hit list to do before I die (or get too old to hike & appreciate).

Well done on maintaining !

Shurely that should be a 'shlip' in the right directshun Missh Roshie ?

What a gorgeous picture, it's looks like you're standing on top of a gaint zebra.

Well done on not putting on any weight. The adventure must have neutralised everything you ate and drank. I'd love to go somewhere like that and do something like that. The feeling of achievement must be great.

Yeah, it's best to wait until you're over your dicky tummy and fighting fight again before you restart LT. Would hate to be doing this when I'm ill, yuk.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Not gaining weight was more luck than judgement. I refed for a week with the intention of eating 'normally' while in India, although that should be abnormally, as I wanted to try all the different foods while I was there, and had no intention of dieting.

I can only think that because of the type of trip and the fact that a lot of the food was bean-based and vegetable, is the reason I didn't gain anything. Not that I am complaining!

Howdy-doody, never say never - I am 44 and this is the first time I have ever done anything like this, and I was by no means the oldest there either, one couple where in their fiftees and the wife had only been riding a year.

Thank you Betsy, those are my sentiments exactly - I don't want the do TFR while I'm not 100%, I feel I need to have some substance inside me and get back to normal before I restart. I am happy just to maintain for now.

Photo looks fab! I would leave TFR till you feel 100%. Won't be long now and you won't put up anything on maintenance and may lose too! Nothing worse than a tummy bug while in ketosis....I know!!!!!

Thank you Chelly, so is yours ;)

Everybody - thanks so much for all your "welcome back"s, this place is becoming like a second family!

Of course I missed my own family, which is why I went straight there from my trip, and I always enjoy that.

I certainly wouldn't say I'm disappointed to be back in Belfast - I love the place, and it's always nice to get back to your independance - however having spent two very strenuous weeks in the company of great friends and overcoming trials every day, and seeing amazing sights and people, then go to solitude and quiet, that takes a little getting used to and I really miss being there. It's amazing how you can form quite a strong bond in such a short time.

Fortunately most of us have kept in touch via email and Facebook, so that's all good.

I will sort out some more photos as soon as I can. I've spend the last week putting them on Facebook - more than 11 albums(!) and some videos too. I will upload a selection of others for Imageshack for you all to have a look at.

Thanks again everyone! x

p.s. Chelly - it's almost the 13th - I really hope your get together with Adam goes as well as my trip did. All the best to you both.
