The Diet Guy
Just had to have my 14 year old springer put down.

Why do we become so attached to em :( :( :( :( :( :(

I am so very sorry to hear you have lost your dog we lost our jack russell last year and I could not beleive the total sadness I felt,as much as loosing a close family member. I said I would never have another dog but in April we had a spaniel from a re homming centre and she is the love of our life she has bought us so much happiness, so I know how you and your family feel today and i send you all my best wishes

They are more than 'just family pets' aren't they ... they become a part of our families so the grief felt when we lose them is very real.

Sorry to hear about your sad news Mike: hope the happy memories of your dear friend will comfort you in times to come xx

Had to come to work but avoiding everyone like the plague so sitting here in the server room with my tissues :-(

The vet was brilliant though and he looked so peaceful afterwards.

Oh my goodness, I am so so sorry, They become more than parts of our lives. Nothing I can say will make you feel better, but wanted to send a big hug to you and your family.

I'm sorry

I am sorry about you're dog. I understand too well. My sister shouted at me once forcrying more over our dog than my nan. Of course it's different, but with a dog there is a pure emotion as there are not all those tricky heck 'I was mean' or 'they were mean to me once' that all gets entangled in human relationships.
Thats what I recon. Do take your time and grieve.

The thing that did me was the fact I wanted to be with the little fellow when they did it as he always hated vets and panicked.

I was holding him in my arms and I felt the life fall out of him. The vet must have thought I was so silly as I was wailing like a schoolboy.

Hi Mike,

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved dog.

I have my baby dog for ten years and she is such a part of our family, when she got knocked down by a car many years ago I nearly lost my life as I was that upset.

I feel our dog gives us as a family so much unconditional love and enjoyment that it is difficult to imagine life without her.

When my nephew's dog died that he was reared up to the age of seven with he was heart broken and one day when he was after climbing a mountain with his uncles and cousins he said to his uncle, are we near heaven as they were so high up...his uncle thought for a moment and he said, I suppose we are!

The next thing my nephew started calling the dogs name...Snoopy, Snoopy...

Aw Mike, you are so brave, that made me cry at just the thought. I have had to have 3 dogs put to sleep, but I couldn't go thru with it, I couldnt even go into the vets car park. At least he was cuddled up to you.

I dont think the vet would have thought you were silly at all, probably just thought how sad it was for you.

Hope you start feeling a bit better soon.

I am sorry Mike, it must be a sh*t day for you and your family. I don't have a dog, but I remember very clearly what it was like losing family pets when I was growing up. That's probably why I choose not to have a dog now.

It's never easy when we lose one of our beloved furbabies but you did what was best for him. Run free at Rainbow Bridge little one.....

WITH ANGELS THEY PLAY
They haven't really been taken away.
They have only gone with the Angels to play.
They have been given wings with which to fly.
All their troubles have passed them by.
Their life in heaven now must start.
But we'll hold their memory in our hearts.
Nothing about them will be forgotten.
But now they sleep on billowy clouds of cotton.

Hi Mike,

I was really sorry to hear about your dog. I was with one of my dogs when they put him to sleep and like you just cried and cried but I felt comfort that he knew I was with him as he slipped away into sleep.

Remember your little tinker and how he ate a lot of your CD stuff last year!! Focus on the funny and happy bits and try not to think too much about the end.

Jo and the kids must be so upset as well. When I have lost pets I have always planted something in the garden as a kind of rememberance.

Tonight if the kids are still awake when its dark look for a new star in the sky that will be your doggie looking down over you all.

Thanks everyone for your support! Much appreciated

I know with all the human suffering and problems it isn't a big thing but I loved the little brown fellow and this house is very very quiet without him.

It's not much comfort but I'm sure your little pal was happy and comforted by being in your arms as he passed. Yours was the last face he saw and I'm certain that the vet did all he could to make sure your dog didn't suffer.
