Why is it when you see a new photo you still look fat?

Went to a BBQ tonight, it was brilliant, had a fab time! But just now my hubby has been putting some photos of it on facebook and I saw myself (usually I dont do photos but I am feeling more confident now). Now when I got ready to go this afternoon I looked in my mirror and thought, "not bad". But on the photo I've just seen I am thinking, "your still fat" :(. Now I'm feeling abit :cry:lol! Plus no one said "wow Jodi your looking great", lol! I am I asking too much, lol! Seriously tho, when did people who didnt know you were dieting notice you were looking trimmer?

I think the way we see ourselves in our heads and the way we really look can be distorted. I actually think we can think we look slimmer than we are and that can be what can stop us making changes to lose weight and get healthier. Bur that photo has got me longing for tomorrow so I can give my kettlebell a workout :D!

i know excatly what u mean, but u are doing graet and u cant lose sight of that no matter what u think of the photos cos one day you will look great. and ppl will comment.

But I want them to notice now, lol! Nah I just feel a bit disappointed. One of my friends asked why I bought my own food and I told her I was doing SW and she didnt say anything about ME, lol ! I think its just because I ve actually cracked it this time and I'm finally getting control of my eating and I am seeing results and I just want people to see what Ive acheived. I am an impatient person :D. I ve set my goal now to be 9st 7lb by 5 May which is my wedding anniversary. And I am so determind to get there and I am going to buy a gorgeous sexy dress for when me and my gorgeous hubby go out to celebrate :D

BTW you look great, you dont look like you need to lose 52lb at all!

i know what you mean! i hate all photos of myself and iv lost almost a stone and when i look in the mirror i dont think its too bad but when i see a photo i think im an elephant:)
dont worry ppl will notice eventually.my mum lost 3 stone and it wasnt until she had lost it all that i was like oh wow you have lost weight! and my best friend hasnt even noticed im any trimmer.
it takes ppl time.dont be downhearted.just remember that when you reach your goal you will look amazing!

know how u feel. i have lost 19lb and my best friend has not even noticed, but its ok cos wen people dont ask it makes me more determined, but my family and oh are always saying i look slimmer so that will do for now, but it would be nice for people to notice xxxx

Hi, Jodidi

Same thing happened to me this week. Ive lost 3st but the photos are still fat. At the start I was 10st overweight and to me I didnt feel that fat. I just think its the self-image you have of yourself and how confident you are within yourself. But I also do know that there are very *****y people out there who will not complement you, even if you lost 10st. But there is always someone that comes along and makes your day by saying something nice. Thats normally on the day that I really need a boost and it keeps me going for a few days.

Keep going girl, they will have to acknowledge us if we reach our goals and look fabulous!:p

i felt exactly the same ive lost 2st 3lbs so far and im more concious of my body( and how fat i am) than i was 2 stone heavier belive it or not!!! people were commenting on my loss but i could see it however im still fat in my eyes and have a long way to go- so when i was feeling **** iposted sum b4 and now pics on here to ask people their opinions and people made sum really lovely comments and this boosted my confidence, maybe u shud do the same hunny>???

There are always things that will knock us down on our journeys aren't there:( You are doing really well so far and your clothes must be getting too big- dropped a dress size or 2?

Keep going, people do start to notice and comment, i've lost over 3 stone and a load of people suddenly noticed; particularly from work. Must admit, I have worn clothes that were getting so big i looked like a shapeless sack half the time! However, I'm now half way to target and still get upset and frustrated trying on new clothes that i think should fit this new slimmer me lol.

We'll all get there if we keep trying, thank goodness for this site to help spur us on.

Good luck hun:)

Hi Joddi, I think you said it yourself, its in our heads. We are so used to seeing ourselves as overweight that its like its been imprinted on our minds thats how we are no matter what changes we make. Just as dieting is a whole new way of life, I believe seeing ourselves as slim is a whole new way of thinking and must be incorporated into our plans for our new lives. We have to get used to the new images comming back at us from the mirror and photos and believe that what we see is actually us, and not let our minds try and convince us otherwise. As for the comments you were looking for, I believe true friends take a bit longer to notice any changes, cos they honestly don't notice the outer you. Thats not why they are your friend, its the inner you they like and that doesn;t change just cos the outer you does. They will notice eventually though and then the comments will be there for you to enjoy. In the meantime enjoy the fact that your friends love you for being you and not what you look like, thats something to treasure. xx

Some people genuinely don't notice that you've lost weight because they see you as a person, not as a shape. Some people are just unobservant!

Tell me about it!

Last year i was 1.5 stone heavier than i am now (well i feel pg and now have a baby boy 4.5 years, but only put on 4lbs during pregnancy!)

I keep thinking surely you should see a difference? But I can't! :-( xx

Hi jodidi, dont beat yourself up about this.:hug99:

The camera adds up to 10lbs

I bet you did look and feel great and thats the important thing to remember here. Stuff the people who didn't comment on how much weight you have lost, they are jelous

Dont give up girl, we are here and know how well you are doing. :grouphugg:

I'm taking pictures every month (G*d I hate having my photo taken!) So now I can compare how I look now as to before. I've lost nearly 2 stone and people are beginning to notice, but what I want to avoid is the "I feel thin" compared to when I started and losing the will to lose the other 2 stone because I can fit in my old clothes again! So I want to see that I need to get rid of it. As you get nearer to target then every pound will have more impact on your shape and the compliments will come thick and fast!

Just posted in your profile album hun xx

Awww honey. You're doing so well - so as much as the pictures might have upset you, keep that in mind. Hugs xxx

Thats true I suppose I have done the same thing myself. I have seen someone every week then all of a sudden I realise they have lost a lot of weight. Its like one minute their big and the next their slim, lol!

my family and oh are always saying i look slimmer
My family say Im looking alot healthier now, I ve got some definition now. My little brother said I looked like I was swollen before, lol!

i felt exactly the same ive lost 2st 3lbs so far and im more concious of my body( and how fat i am) than i was 2 stone heavier belive it or not!!!

When I looked at the photo all I could focus on were the bad bits,"you've still got a gut, your thighs are huge", lol! I think sometimes as well you think, well ive lost all this weight I must be slim now and you get a shock when you look in the mirror, hee hee!

Stuff the people who didn't comment on how much weight you have lost, they are jelous
Dont get me wrong, the people at the BBQ are really good friends, they wouldnt be nasty like that. I did have a brilliant time!

Been there and done that one in the past, Ill never let that happen again. I'll just need to look at a photo to put that idea out of my mind, lol!
