'Celebs' and body confidence

Is it just me or is it just recent years that seems to have caused a massive rise of 'celebs' in the UK? I remember as a kid famous people were the likes of movie stars (Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks etc etc).

But now there are all the WAGs, 'models' and 'reality TV stars' knocking about. Is it my memory or is this a relatively new thing?

Anyway, I used to buy a couple of trashy mags each week to read in the bath or at lunch (work). But recently I just realised it's getting boring reading about 'celebs' and their 'issues' when in real life people are facing worse but without the pay packet.

In short, I am fed up with these Z list celebs who earn stacks by pretty much selling their souls (and so me buying the mags didn't help - just enouraged lol).

And what's more they generally seem to be people with really low self esteem - and it's scary given they influence younger people who are seeing surgery (when not needed) as a way to cheer themselves up or get famous.

Even I used to look at some of them and think 'I wish'. But you know what? I'd rather be at SW admitting I'd been naughty and had some chocolate, have curves and a normal life - than be in that role.

However, there are some real genuine beauties out there in celebdom who I look at and think 'wow, you're so purty'.

Shakira is my fave - she's a stunning girl who never seems to wear a lot of makeup/fake stuff.

I just saw a music vid of hers and if I could wish for any body it would be hers I think. Slim, toned but CURVY - not like some of the twiglets out there.

Sorry - rambling now. But you know what I mean?

Who does anyone else admire and why?

I know exactly what you mean, on the cover of OK this week is Kerry Katona, she's put lots of weight on and is wearing the same leotard etc as when she was really slim - she's made a fool of herself with the pics inside. What is she famous for......

I REALLY admire Nigella Lawson, she looks great, loves food, her recipes are amazing and she seems like she doesn't give a monkey's about what people think of her.

You've got me thinking now about who else I admire.....

KK is one of the two that constantly hack me off - she was with that girlband for like 2 songs!!! YEARS AGO! Grrr. Maybe I'll give Max Clifford a call - he can make ANYONE famous!

Did you see the picture's of Simon La Bon's (Duran Duran) wife Yasmin and her 3 teenage daughters, she looked gorgeous and they all looked like sisters. X

You are right Sticky, the world has gone celeb mad! Seems like anyone can be one.

My pet hate at the moment is Katie Price aka Jordan ~ I'm not even going to start grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I will have to come back on what celeb I admire!

Oh yes...the Katie P/Jordan thing! Gah!! She's a rotter that one - feel sorry for Peter A after seeing an episode of their show. Not agreeing with some of what he did at all - don't get me wrong. But she made him look saintly!

Drew Barrymore has always been my fave hollywood gal... not as polished and 'fake' as the rest of 'em... she's keepin it REAL! And very curvy and pretty

I like anna friel very beautiful and seems like a nice lady to! As for kerry katona well she really gives me the hump! Im sure she will be back to here size 8 figure next week with no effort what so ever, After some trashy tv show gives her some more surgery!

Don't they just get on your nerves! Jordan is the one I dislike most ... she is so fake. How can you be so in love with someone one minute and completely over them within 2 months??? Dont get it myself.

We really have the reality TV culture to blame for all these Z list celebs ....

I love my trashy mags! But I will say that I do not understand the fixation with Katie Price/Peter Andre. I find them both absolutely narco-bloody-leptic. If I see either of them on a mag cover, I won't buy the mag. They are immensely boring. Same goes for Posh and Becks. I don't really get when being totally thick and superficial became the only prerequisite for idolatry. I mean, yeah, I can understand the appeal of an everyman or everywoman, but surely the average person isn't quite such a mental void as this lot?

Can't really think of a typical celeb I admire... I suppose I admire Cate Blanchett for her great talent and her amazing style. Julie Walters - I think she's fab! And I'd love to have lunch with Tony Benn (does he count as a celeb?) because I think he's maybe the only man involved in politics in recent years who has the slightest shred of integrity!
