exercise

Hi, no, not significantly enough that you'd notice.

Example: if you burn 300 calories in an hour of exercise, you'd need to do that 12 times to burn off a pound of fat. And that'd still have to be 300 calories over and above what you would have burned in that hour anyway. Let's say you burn 80 calories an hour just sitting around (that's roughly 2000 calories divided by 24, to get your hourly calorie usage) - if you burn 300 calories in an hour at the gym then only 220 of those are 'extra'. You'd have to do that 16 times to burn a pound of fat.

So yes, it does speed it up, but not so you'd notice. If you're doing so much that it makes a significant difference to your losses, you need to eat more! :)

Of course it's a great idea to exercise for all the other health benefits, and any slight increase in weight loss is a nice side effect!

Good idea, walking is great exercise! It's also a good idea to get into the habit of doing a little bit of resistance work e.g. weights, because although you can't build any muscle while you're on a VLCD, you can improve your strength and endurance and maintain the muscle you've already got.
