Life is not a Rehersal!
I read this today in the Metro....either LT or LL...

DIET OR DIE - WATER WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT

Grandfater Idris Lewis was told to diet or die - so he lost more than 63.5kg (10st) by consuming nothing but water and nutrient shakes for six months. Mr Lewis 69, needed heart surgery by the end of the year but was too fat. "It was a case of diet or die. I had no choice - I had to lose that weight," he said. Advised by his GP, he stopped eating, instead drinking water - tap or bottled to give him variety - and nutrient-rich shakes. '"Occasionally, I'll see an advert for steaming roast chicken or a piece of steak and think that looks nice", said Mr Lewis of Nailsea, Avon, who now weighs 103kg (16st 3lb). He will soon finish his diet and is to have the op in October

ALL I CAN SAY IS "WAW" AND "WELL DONE" - So if a 69 year old can cope, so can we :)

Just a nice little thought and I really had a smile when I read it as there is so much bad publicity with VLCD, but just proves it works and that it was for medical reasons and a GP recommended.....

What a boost the confidence knowing that it is do-able. I'm fortunate in that although I've got a fair bit of weight to lose, it's not as much as 10 stone but anyone with that amount of willpower has all my respect. It's hard enough as it is, but that is just brilliant.

I know and it is a 69 yr old as well...that must have been tough going as by that age you get set in your ways and I am sure he was of the old school too..bless!!!

Living was more important to him than eating, and really, that is what it all boils down to I suppose..we carry on eating like we did, and we could have been in the same situation further down the line..

It just made my day reading that..pity it was such a tiny block hidden away on Pg 9 - it should have been splattered on the front page in my opinion!!!!!!

Considering that obesity is made out to be some kind of hideous crime, they'd be applauding the efforts of someone who has taken that kind of step to bettering their life. I'd be more than happy reading that story in the paper than hearing yet another piece of gossip about the Beckhams or the Jordan/Peter Andre saga! *sigh*

I agree 100%.....

What a wonderful achievement :) wonder which brand of diet it was...

I agree, so much emphasis goes into slagging off peoples' rubbish diets and then a tiny little bit of news when someone else manages to lose that much weight!

Well done to him and hope he continues into a healthy weight.

Hi Scotsmist,
saw photos of this man on yahoo, he looks great. It's great when he says he has a different attitude to food now and doesn't ever intend to put the weight on again. His lovely wife said she never ate in front of him for the last 6 months as she didn't want to tempt him.
Great to hear the success stories shown.
