This ketosis lark

Right, maybe you lot can help clear this up for me.

My understanding is that when you are in ketosis some people get feelings of euphoria and/or you don't feel hungry.

Neither things are happening for me. Between 4 - 6 pm in particular are very difficult and I can think about nothing but food.

My tummy is still physically rumbling and causing much embarrassment as I run a recruitment business and spend a lot of my time interviewing people.

I am STARVING. Quite literally.

AND... I went back on the scales tonight and despite sticking to SS 100% my scales have not gone down since my last weigh in last Thursday. To say I am peed off is a massive understatement!

If you're doing this 100%, you'll be in ketosis.

I have never had that euphoric feeling and my tummy rumbles like you wouldn't believe, especially around 'mealtimes' - the looks on people's faces is a picture so I feel your pain!

I think the hunger is more a mental thing than physical, I try and have more water if I think I'm feeling hungry and that tends to take the edge off. Could be worth trying to split your packs so you have little and often, although I know that's not always practical!

Are you drinking enough water? That could have an impact on the scales, you could be retaining water if you're not drinking enough....

Not everyone gets the euphoria. I didn't most of the time. Feel really tired too, and hungry certain times of the day. It wasn't always like that though, and for many people it really gets better from week 3.

:hug99: It's annoying isn't it, and even a bit scary. But you will be losing fat, even if you aren't in ketosis. Promise. Hang in there. I know it probably seems like forever, but the results are well worth it.

Some day I felt like euphoric and other days I felt exhausted. It really does get better as the weeks go on.
The rumbling tummy I rarely get and I think it's because I fill it up frequently with coffee and water.

The scales not moving can be devastating and even now after so many weeks I find that very hard to cope with. I run a recruitment business too and in the beginning the rumblings used to embarrass me! They tail off though.

I'm drinking 4 litres a day. I just can't manage more than that. I had a brilliant week last week but I realise that most of what I lost wasn't actually fat. I am so disappointed that I have been so good and not cheated at ALL and I am still not losing. I don't know what else I have to do!

Well yes that's more than enough. You're not chewing gum are you? Some people get that with gum.

All I can say is don't panic because if you look at most people losses week on week a lot have a good week and a not so good week, but it evens out. You lost nearly a stone in a week. Some people lose a lot less than that.
Try to see it in terms of months - the average is about a stone a month. Any more than that and you're lucky. CD is a fantastic diet, but you need to give it time, as frustrating as that is.
Additionally, some people literally lose a few lbs in a woosh on their WI day. Every week when I first started I'd not show much of a loss until my WI and the scales would drop.
You've done so well so far and it does work if you just stick with it x

Thanks. I'm not chewing gum. I do have some listerine strips but I'm only having one a day.

I don't want to be a moaning minnie I really don't. I find this incredibly hard though and today was sat on the train with voices going "just buy some battered fish" "NO, you will never have a baby if you keep eating like a fat bloater" "go on, just a little bit" "no no no no no".

My poor cat has only got dried food tonight because she's out of the wet stuff and I didn't trust myself to go to the corner shop and just buy cat food! What the hell is wrong with me!

Nothing is wrong with you. Anyone who has overeaten and gotten to a point where they are not happy with themselves, but love food is going to get a shock when they start CD.

You've gone from (if you're anything like me!) eating whatever you want, when you want, to a strict diet so cut yourself some slack.
You're doing really well and seriously, plenty of people don't get as far as you have so far. There will be people reading your post wishing they had the strength to get through a week - you've done it.

Some days are hard. There is no getting away from that. So just be prepared for them. Just because your mind tells you to eat something doesn't mean you have to listen to it. You have made the choice to do this and you are strong enough to do this.

Never worry about posting on here because we've all been there and had bad days. I used to get the urge to eat my cats/dogs food!!! At least you've not had that :)

You might feel unhappy at times on this diet, but ask yourself how unhappy you felt before you started it? Anyone starting CD must be feeling pretty fed up, as it's a big step.

Thanks Liz. I know you're right. I did LL for three months and I know how hard it can be. I hate myself for letting myself get this big and am full of anger today. I just want to wake up in a few months time and skip all the hard stuff. Shame is doesn't work like that :D

You're human!

Those pesky demons really do try to test us but keep looking at how well you've done and before you know it, you'll be telling us how well your weigh in went!

It took me about 3 months before I could trust myself in a food shop, I'm sure your cat will get used to it!!

Guru

I never felt euphoric! In fact I felt better on the first 3 days of CD than I have since!!

I too get a bad rumbling stomach and find 4-7pm the hardest time. I too have not had a loss this week to date, but am sure it will catch up and even if it is only 1-2 pounds, it will be a loss!

Keep plodding along as it will all be worth it xx

I know it's easier said that done, but eventually you will stop hating yourself. I hated myself for so long and it's tiring! Now I try and think that my mind and body are working together to get through this diet.
It's not very supportive of my mind to decide it hates my body and I need all the support I can get.
Your body is having to cope with the lack of food and the rumbling tummy - use your mind to support it because it's probably a lot stronger than you think :)

I hate myself for letting myself get this big and am full of anger today.

Stick with GURU, you will feel better soon xxx I promise xxx

I must admit I feel tired and hormonal more than euphoric!! I'm exhausted by the evenings!!

Hang on in there guru, honestly - it does get easier, just aim to take it one day at a time and before you know it you'll have done another week, then a fortnight, then a month and you'll be watching the pounds go!

Just an, erm, tmi question for you to think about rather than answer necessarily - you said you were constipated, are you still? Would that be affecting your weight?

I am definitely also in the tired and hormonal camp! :D

The only way I cope is to distract myself. If you spend lots of time worrying about the diet and constantly thinking it just makes it worse and end up very stressed and vulnerable to break the diet. I find it easier to keep busy. :D

If you're feeling hungry, even with the shakes, maybe split the shakes and have them at more frequent times, or add in the vegetable boullion to drink? maybe making a "cabbage soup" with the boullion.

Ahhhhh

You sound like me....... I'm always worring about the weight not coming off. In fact I've moaned to my hubby about it I actually had to tell him it was working as I had lost 3stone in 8 weeks, up until that point I had grumbled such a lot he thought I had lost about a stone...
The weight will come off, like KD said, it is just hard when it comes off slowly. As we speak I have only lost about 1lb in around 7 days, but fingers crossed more will quickly follow.
Your not at your 2nd weigh in yet, there is still time.
Hang in there it is worth it and I don't get that high either and my tummy grumbles, especially at night... I could murder a meal, but no no no no no no..... I will find my slim body again. It is in there some where.
Good luck hope the scales move for you soon. XXXXXX

Thank you all! As always, I feel better in the morning. I think evening rants might become a regular thing :D

The good news is, the scales went down this morning :) I am now not dreading my weigh in quite so much!

I'm not constipated at the moment... but I have had my totm this week so that might have affected it I guess.

I am relieved that I am not the only tired and emotional one out there. Ketosis euphoria.. pah! :D

Hi Guru, been there too and find it sooooo hard at times but DETERMIND to reach goal so know I just have to keep going! I don't know if this helps but when I hear my tummy making a rumbling/gurgling noise I tell myself it's not rumbling from hunger but it's the noise it makes as it's eating away at my fat cells turning them into energy!!!! Might sound odd but that way I lie there listening to it with a smile on my face :):):) in fact think I'll post this for all the tummy rumblers out there! x

(sorry, I know it's imported but the smilies here aren't as good!)

And yay for the scales going down - I'm so pleased for you! If it's any reassurance my scales have stayed the same for 4 days now too but I know they'll start moving again soon, probably just my body re-adjusting or something!!
