Brushing away the cobwebs!

Hi everyone,
I've realised that I've been a bit of a moaning minnie lately what with my losses not being as good as they used to be, and lots of people here have been very supportive regardless of my whinging! :)

The scales are stuck again for me today (grr!) but I've decided to try to do something positive instead of feeling sorry for myself.

I was looking on tinternet for ways of boosting your metabolism, and I'm going to try a couple of them this week to see if my losses speed up again. Fingers crossed!

Obviously one of the things to do is exercise, which I haven't done at all during CD. Partly because I'm lazy, but for the first five or six weeks on SS I was absolutely knackered all the time! It's just occurred to me that I feel more or less normal these days, not full of beans but not lacking energy, so I think it's time to dust of the exercise bike. I'm going to do that every other day, aiming to burn 200 calories per session (that's what the dodgy computer on my bike says I've done, anyway).

On the opposite days I'm going to do some light strength training to help me tone up a bit, as I've always been a bit of a flabster.

Last thing I think I'll try is spreading my CD packs out more. I'm going to half my porridge and my lunchtime/dinnertime soup and eat them separately over the course of the day, so I'll have six mini meals instead of three normal CD meals. I'll still be having all my packs, just over a longer period.
I read that this helps maintain your blood sugar so that your metabolism doesn't dip during the day. I've no idea if it will help or how accurate that info is, but I'm going to give it a try until my WI on Friday. Aiming for a 3lb loss this week. Fingers and toes crossed! ;)

Hi Nicola, Green tea also helps I love the mint one!

Resistance is great but be careful about your cardio exercise. CD recommends up to 30 mins of light exercise for SSers and it's a bit complicated to explain here, but really what you should aim for is trying to put your heart rate in what's called the fat burning zone which is basically where your heart isn't going 100 miles an hour ie is not high intensity cardio. Remember you don't have any glycogen stored and if you are doing cardio activity that gets your heart rate right up there, that's what your body is going to look for.

I love exercise too but found when I did SS+ last year my losses slowed when I upped the exercise too fast and I know a lot of people that have had the same.

So by all means, do start doing some exercise but take it slooooowly on the cardio front for now, and do some resistance/ core work instead.

I know it's hard when you've had weeks of really high losses but try to keep things in perspective. The average is a stone a month and you are well above that by the looks of things. x

Fingers crossed for a big loss for you this week. Good luck with the exercising!
