2009 Food Directory Question

Good morning everyone, how are you today?

My OH bought me a 2009 Food Directory as my 2006 one was (obviously) very out of date! Anyway, it's a fab book but I just don't understand what the difference between the 'Smart Syns' section and the 'Syns Basket' section is? Can anyone shed some light on this please? The book doesnt explain the differences very well.

Smart syns just means that there's an element of free food in it. So if you've got a ready meal with chicken in it or flavoured noodles or something it'll be in the smart syns section. Anything where the whole product would be syned, like chocolate cake or mayo for example would be in the syns basket.
