Another newbie with some questions

Hi there & welcome :)

Did the Drs say what they would do if the Xenical doesn`t work for you? I also eat quite healthily and exercise etc and tbh I`m only losing about 1lb a week which is very frustrating :( So I don`t know what other options I could try as over eating etc isn`t my problem!

As for your nights out, Sometimes there are healthier options depending where you are going but if it came to it I would either give the pill a miss or just take it a bit later when I got home (you have up to 1 hour to take it after eating).

Alcohol doesn`t tend to have too much fat in it depending what you drink, I think it is more cals?

Guiness isn`t too bad for fat ;) and Vodka is also low on cals (sound like an alkie now LOL)

Good Luck with your weightloss!!

hello welcome and good luck with xenical i am only into my 2nd week and still sussing it out i had lost 2 stone over 3 years i am a very slow loser and am on this to try and speed it up a bit and it seems to be at the moment. i think if i was going out for special occasion i would either suffer consiquences if not to higher fat meal or miss the pill for that meal:D ask at the resturant for the low fat options alot will cook food with out adding any oil if you ask:)

You will be hard pushed to find much in a curry house that is low fat, so if it were me id have the treat and miss the pill, coz as you say its not a regular thing.

I wish you all the best with your continuing weightloss journey, and hope that xenical is the kickstart your body needs.

welcome and good luck xxxxx

hi im in my 1st week too and so far its going ok and im resisting the scales :)

Good luck with the xenical, personally i'd be very tempted not to have pills for the whole day. I tried xenical a few years ago and after having two 'accidents' i decided enough was enough. Be very careful what you eat, i hope it goes well for you.

Your right, probably i would have been okay if i had actually been told more than eat a low fat diet... When i did have 'accidents' i cant remember having anything that was particularly high in fat. But then manufacturers were very good at hiding fat or fatty foods with fancy names on products...

Hiya Dave and welcome to minimins and xenical, good luck with your weightloss journey. As for the currys and missing pills and not having effects i know it says that that pills don't stay in your system longer than an hour however we went away for our anniversary last week and i didn't take the pills, as it turned out we only actually had 1 meal that wasn't healthy but bearing in mind i hadn't had the pills for 3 days i didn't have any "accidents" however had very bad gas and the (sorry TMI) the orange oily bowel movements.

On the weightloss front or rather, lack of, it's interesting what you said about all the tests and diets you've been on etc my auntie had a metabolic test done several years ago as she was in a similar situation and basically every time she did lose any weight it soon piled back on even if she did not alter her healthy eating/exercise regime. This test showed that her metabolic rate was so slowed she could only consume 300kcals per day before gaining weight so basically shes screwed. To be fair she's not gained any more weight however she's not able to lose any either and i often wonder if this is some form of genetic abnormality as every member of that side of the family (myself included) is obese if not morbidly and infact I have the lowest BMI at 39.5 and we all present in the same way, lose a few stone but unable to lose any more than that and gain weight without changing diet. Would be very interesting to find out.

Anyway sorry for waffling but it does make you think, but fingers crossed the xenical will work for all of us and we'll all be able to lose this excess weight :)

So glad I am not the only one with a rubbish GP. She just told me that I would get diarrhoea if I ate fat. Yeah thanks for that lol

Am new here too and starting on Monday (and stopping smoking) so am spending this evening searching this site for meal ideas and the best low fat choices.

Is all so daunting.

All the best on your weight loss.

congrats Dave thats a fantastic start, when you say you are eating the same as before in the day what are you having?? and are you taking the tablets during the day?
love the wii telling you to have a day off mine just laughes at my mii as it looks like a blob on the screen :)

quick update, 2 weeks in and 8lbs off and no side effects! Have been pretty careful with my evening meal but the rest of the day i've been eating the same as I did before.

Managed to eat out for the first time yesterday when the parents were down. Sunday lunch at a local pub, was pretty worried and scouted out where the loos were in case of emergency but no problem at all. Got home and went to do my wii fit and it told me to take a day off as I was doing too much!!!

Sure 4lbs a week won't keep up but so long as it keeps going down all is good.

Well done you!!! your doing great!!

Welcome! I am new too. 2nd day of Xenical and no side effects yet! Think that is purley cos i daren't eat any fat ha ha.
Getting weighed every Monday myself, then back to the docs once a month. I have loads to loose, but as long as it's coming off, I am gonna try and be happy with it!
Good luck everyone x

Hey Dave, congrats on losing 8lbs! This forum is brilliant for advice and support, so make sure you use it to your advantage, there's always someone around to chat to. Good luck with the rest of your weight loss journey :)

Good for you dave - keep up the good fight x

ooh very good Dave! 8lb in 2 weeks is fab!! Keep up the good work!!

Glad the meal out went well! It takes half the fun out of eating out when you have to worry if what you ordered is going to make you do a sprint to the toilet!! I've only been out a few times... and to be honest I didnt really enjoy it!!! Apart from wondering how the chefs cook things I was eyeing up the rest of the menu thinking about what the 'old' me would've ordered! mmmm i can taste it now!!!

Anyways, enough of my blabbering! Goodluck on your journey and may side effects stay well away!!

Kaz :flowers:
