I study Event Management at uni and that's what I want to get into. I saw that Cancer Research are looking for volunteers to organise an event to raise money for them. My Nan died of cancer about.... 8 years ago, so it's something that is important to me, and it would also be great experience. So I'm wanting to organise an event. This is my idea, wondering what people thought! Figured I could get feedback from people and see what people thought and that would help me figure where to go next. If anyone has any advice or hints, let me know!!

So, I'm thinking of doing a ball. A bit cliche I know, but maybe a masquerade ball? So I'm thinking like a drinks reception, then meal, charity auction followed by dance floor and live music for the night maybe. And possibly a live band during the drinks reception and meal, maybe.

What do you guys think? Good idea? How many of you would actually go to something like this? I have to think about what I could realistically charge for a ticket to something like this, and then from that work out how much I could likely raise.

If anyone has any advice, hints, tips or experience to share with me, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

By the way, that's not me trying to sell any of you tickets, merely just wanting opinions!! Thanks :) x

i think it's a wonderful idea.
My dad died of cancer nearly 5 years ago now, and anything that goes towards research or making sufferers lives that little bit easier is worth it.

My friends are doing the three peek challenge raising money for macmillan soon. You will have my support.

Thanks Lauren. I really want to do something, it's beyond me getting experience or looking good on my CV now. I know how hard it was for me when my Nan died, and if I can help a charity that can potentially stop that happening as much as it does, or can support those who are going through that, then I want to in anyway I can!

I want to do a sponsored three peaks or something similar once I've lost all the weight!

Hi Caroline, I think it is a great thing to do. My LLC has organised a ball for us which is on Sunday eek!!! She is doing a bike ride around Cuba in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Centre. We are having a fashion show sponsored by Debenhams (which includes me!!), there will be raffles, prizes, a band, belly dancers, it is going to be amazing. She is charging £10 a ticket and anyone can go not just LL clients.

Good luck with your ball as I think it is a brill idea x x

Well that's what I was thinking, I've not ever been to a ball before, but would like to! So I figure there's a fair few people who would. Oooooh!!! I just realised, if I do this in November, I'd be almost at goal! So I could wear a beautiful dress for once!!

FANTASTIC IDEA CAROLINE! :clap::clap:

ALL THE BEST WITH IT, I GUESS THE BEST PLACE FOR ADVICE AND HELP WOULD BE THE CHARITY ITSELF...

GOOD LUCK! ;)

I've emailed Cancer Research UK, I know they want me to do something, I'm just waiting for a response back as to whether they like my idea, and what help they can offer me!

Well it looks like it might be going ahead! I've found a probable venue and caterer, but having to discuss prices at the moment because they're saying £24 a head, and I don't want to have to pay that much and therefore charge a lot more than that for tickets! But I've done poster and ticket designs, I know I don't need them yet, but that way I can send them off to printers and ask whether they would sponsor the event by doing printing for free. And also different advertising avenues like some of the local newspapers. The biggest challenge I have at the moment however is finding corporate sponsors, it's going to be hard work!
