Help with Doctor's referral to SW please...

Donnie46

Slow but sure....
My DD is thinking of getting a Dr's refferal to SW - she is very overweight and has a high BMI so she should get the referral quite easily.

Her problem is she doesn't drive and her husband works away from home some weeks and as she has a 1 year old child it will be difficult for her to get to class every week.

So my question is....Can she do SW online as a referral or does she have to attend classes?

If she could do it online it would be a really big help for her.

Thank you for you help..

I don't know the answer here Donnie, but my opinion is I doubt it. Online membership involves weighing yourself and inputting your own details in. I guess being cynical the NHS might have issue with this as is relies to a degree on honesty. No offence to your DD (don't know what DD means by the way lol)

I would assume that classes were the only possible referral as your weight loss is overseen by a trained leader, who actually sees your weight loss, records it and is there to answer questions at all times.

I may be completely wrong though- lol

No I don't think you are wrong, I had the same thoughts myself, with a referral I should think you have to attend a class and have an attendance card or something signed to prove you are attending the classes, but I told my DD I would make enquires.

It was worth asking though as I know there are a few referral SW'er's on the forum, thank you for answering my question, it's much appreciated. X

Yes that's right Darling or Dear Daughter, DS is son, DH is husband, DGS is grandson, DSIL is son in law, etc, etc......I suppose PC's and Mobile phones have generated a whole new language in the 21st Century, LOL...X

I'm with the others that I think she may have to attend a class, but it's worth asking if they would pay for her to do it online and learn the plan but get weighed at the surgery by the nurse. If you don't ask, you don't get! Good luck

yeah i am thinking the same thing. I do it online but i pay for it. I like it but it does require honesty, and if you really want to lose the weight then you will be honest. If would only be yourself you are lying too. But it is a great way of doing slimming world if you don't like or want or can't go to classes.
