Hi everyone.

I am a serial failed slimmer with 3.5 stone (just under 50lbs) to lose until I am anywhere near happy with my weight. :wave_cry: I would love to do slimming world but due tomy financial commitments I really can't afford to join a group or even on line. Is there any on line site anyone can direct me to which will show me how to follow the plan, because even after reading the stickies on here I am still a little confused.

Also, second question (!) ..sorry...I have tried WW 3 times and failed miserably, why in your opinion is SW better to stick to and better for acheiving results...just in your opinions?

Thank you all and I look forwards to participating in here

Heya, welcome!

A lot of people on here are going it alone and most get their books from ebay, however they overcharge quite a bit and you can't be sure you are getting the most up to date information. The best option is to probably go to a class once, get all the books and expert advice from the consultant and don't go back! It will cost about £10, which is a lot cheaper than ebay!

SW works in 3 parts, free food, healthy extras and syns. There is also 3 plans within SW - Red (original), Green and Extra Easy. Extra Easy is reccommended for newbies.

Free food is what it says on the tin - free! You can eat as much as you like of these foods without measuring, weighing or counting and not a shread of guilt! On red free foods include; lean meat (including bacon) and poultry, fish and seafood and game. Green ff includes; vegetables and pulses (inc. potatoes) rice, pasta and grains.
Extra easy is both plans combined.

Healthy extras are included as they have essential vitamins and nuitrients to keep us healthy, but when eaten in excess cause weight gain - this is why you must weigh your healthy extras. You have 2 a's and 2 b's if doing red or green and 1 a and 1 b if doing extra easy.

A choices are cheese and milk, and b choices are things like cereal, crispbread, meat (on green), pasta, rice, grains etc.(on red), nuts and seeds and cereal bars.

Syns are for everything else, you can have 15 a day and need to have atleast 5. Start with 15 and you can cut back if your losses slow down or plateau.

With regards to SW vs. WW I think it is personal opinion, lifestyle and so on. Really it's what suits you best! I hope that has helped a little, but you really can't do the plan without any of the books.

best of luck,

Natt x

Thank you so much for the advice Natt, that was excellent info. I think you are right though, I need to go along and see how it goes. I think there is a discount on joining atm.

once again thanks :)

Well I joined! I did go with the intention of just going to get the books and info, but I think I am going to stick at it. The group seemed freindly and supportive, and they seem to all be having good sucsess.
My starting weight scared me but I feel motivated to do this...

So..here's to my 3 stone weight loss journey!

Good luck Gertie. I just started SW (had my first WI on Thursday) and so far I'm loving it. I did WW for many years and always did the points plan where i had to count everything because I didn't trust myself to not eat too much if I was on the Core plan. I didn't think I was going to like SW but thought I'd give it a go because I was getting a bit complacent with WW and needed to do something new. Well I love it and I won't be going back to WW now. I love the fact that you can eat freely more or less on this one and I'm never hungry. Minimal counting means I don't constantly think about food like I used to either.

Hope it goes well and you enjoy it too x
