Hypothetically, an evening off?

Is CD 1000 calories enough to prevent my body being in starvation mode? I was just wondering what would happen if, hypothetically speaking, I had my porridge on the morning without the fruit, my soup at lunchtime and then a 2000 calorie meal on the evening? This would be about the recommended 2500 daily calories, but what effect would the additional 1500 calories have on me, and my diet (other than it being naughty...)?

Also, when would be best to exercise to help combat it; during the day before, or the day after?

2000 calories is a lot for one meal!!! What is it you're planning to have exactly?

Are you on SS with 4 shakes?

If so, you'll be kicked out of ketosis. You might find that your body has actually got used to it and so such a rush of calories and carbs might shock it a bit. And it'll affect your loss for the week. It may mean doing an extra week of CD which if you're on 4 shakes a day is £50, is it worth it?

OMG what meal has 2000 calories in it?? I think CD is more than just losing the weight. Afterwards we need to maintain and by having that amount of calories whilst you are losing weight could mean that once you finish CD at goal you will start eating that kind of amount again.... maybe you should rethink and if you still want to have a planned meal off, pick something with a lot less calories in with high protein and low carb so it wont kick you out of ketosis. Good luck with whatever you decide.

No, 1000 calories: 2 CD sachets plus fruit, skimmed milk and a 460 calorie evening meal.

TBH that 2000 calories thing might be way off, I'm on about an evening meal out, starter and main course. But no restrictions. But I certainly wouldn't be having more than the recommended 2500 calories in that day.

I think CD is about more than losing the weight too, but I fully expect to have an *occasional* high calorie evening meal once I'm down to goal and still maintain my weight through exercise and healthy eating the rest of the time. I don't drink so there's no problems there.

Anyway, this might not happen. I'm just wondering what would happen if I was on an overnighter with work and I had a meal in the resteraunt. If the impact on me is *too* much it definately won't happen.

Hi, to maintain when we are at goal it's 1500cals so 2500 cals will not be too good for you I imagine. I would try to have a low carb meal that evening and then the week's results will be much better. Cd is also not just about losing the weight but re-educating ourselves about food so it may make it harder if you jump back to 2500 in the middle of it. Don't mean to sound hard just a suggestion. Hope you enjoy yourself whatever you choose to do and good luck with your cd journey. Zoe xx Posted after your above post-might not be too bad if you mean that.

I've eaten out at restaurants and still been ok though obviously broke the plan. So just choose healthy options, it's totally possible.

FOOD MENTIONED Aaah right, well I have had a couple of planned nights off, we went to 2 concerts and it was Father's Day on Sunday so went out with hubby and children.... I try and pick healthy stuff, although the first concert we went to I had a slight problem. I read the menu at home, picked something that sounded tasty and was not too bad and when we got there they had a special concert menu and didn't have my choices on it. So I picked lamb kebabs with salad and gave the pitta bread to hubby, I had also decided to have a dessert of Strawberries, plain yoghurt and a spoon of honey, but no they didn't have that either, so blew it with a cheesecake.... doh, but the weight gain wasn't too bad and I was prepared for it, I also only drank diet coke so no alchohol problems... Sunday was a bit different, I am closer to goal and feel that occasionally I need to have a meal which I want and which isn't necessarily the healthiest option.... this time I had chips as there was no salad option, I would have opted for the salad if given the choice, and I did eat the chips, I then had honeycomb cheesecake for dessert, again not the healthiest option, but I ate everything slowly and savioured the taste and so felt fuller sooner... I only put on 1lb and have managed to lose that already, so am really pleased.... seeing as after CD we should be eating healthier options, maybe now is the time to put that in to practise... I have found my tastes have changed and I dont want the stodgy food I once did. My plan once I reached goal was to have a chinese chicken curry with rice, but I no longer want that....

Those Parmo hot shots are calling out to you I can tell!!!

I would say that as long as you can get back to your 1000 a day after your evening out the effects should not be too bad. It may take a bit longer to get to your goal but I would not beat yourself up about it.

At the end of the day this is your journey and only you can lose the weight. If it takes a bit longer because you have the odd night off then so be it.

I thought CD was all about making lifestyle choices after the weight is lost and not just a quick way to lose weight.

Theres no problem having a meal out, just go for a chicken salad or a roast without the potatoes and yorkshire pud (extra veg instead), theres always a way round these things, if there isn't a healthy option on the menu, ask them to adjust one of their dishes to your liking, after all you are paying for the meal, you have to have it your way.

1500? ouch, I was going by the Department of Health guidelines of 2500!

Your post isn't hard-sounding, it's just that sometimes I'm working away with colleagues from other offices; there is usually a meal out one evening since we all work from different sites around the country; getting a 460 calorie meal might be a bit difficult so I'd probably have to pre-pack something and not go out.

Yeah, choosing something healthy is the way forward though, you're right there

It takes 3500 calories to lose a pound and 3500 to gain a pound. for every 200 calories you burn off you will also burn off 50g of carbs. but remember your calorie intake for the entire week combined. it is really very difficult if not impossible to burn off 3500 in a week while dieting. Also, if you paln to eat carbs, you will probably go out of ketosis and need to re establish it with another 2-3 days of withdraw. Can you plan a very low carb meal? but thne again that depends on which plan you are on at the moment, you didnt mention it.
