Metabolism questions and thoughts (inc food talk without the food)

SerenityValley

Surgically happy.
I don't mention any specific foods but I do mention that I'm eating. Part of my reason for posting in here, is becaue LL ffects our metabolisms a lot and it might be useful for people to know that the metabolism can get normal again (and in my case - gone beyond that)

Does anyone know much about metabolisms in general?

I think mine has gone haywire.

I weighed in last thursday at 13st 3lbs and have in calorie terms had the following:

T - 3500+
F - 1500
S - 3500+
S - 4000+
M - 2300
T - 2500+
W - 2500

I weighed in this morning at 13st 2lbs.

Of those 7 days I only exercised on Friday/Saturday.

Normally if I eat more than 2,000 a day I start to put weight on. Obviously I'm not intending trying to get away with eating more. I had a few days off, and ate more than I would normally (generally foods that I don't consider cost effective in terms of calories).

I'm back to normal today (aiming around 1500 to 1700).

Anyway, I'm assuming that my metaobolism has never been a constant thing, that I've always had these wild swings - I do remember going months with eating a shed load of junk and then finding I still weighed the same as before I went off the rails. And I've had weeks of eating less and putting weight on.

It does make me wonder how easy it is to go into "starvation mode" and perhaps I've done this more than I realised.

Anyway - my overall diet is getting healthier and I'm mostly curious how people coming off LL have found their metabolism going?

Are you sure there's nothing medically wrong Andy? Losing weight when comsuming such a decvent amount of calories doesn't add up as far as I can see. Probably a good idea to get it checked out.

My metabolism is deadly slow and I have to stick to 1500 cals a day (2000 if I get to the gym) or I can easily put on 4-5lbs in a week.

I tink we're all just very different. You get the good side of the bargain it seems though!!

I'm not worried yet - though I AM ill lol - have been suffering from Man flu since Monday.

I just wonder if maybe my metabolism has always done this - and it might make sense - that it's never been a constant thing. If the weight keeps coming off, I'll def chat to the doc

Mens metabolisms slow down at a much slower speed than ladies. So when a lady reduces food, the metabolism goes down quite quickly and mens reduce a little slower...it's slower to adapt

The opposite it true when we eat more. Whenever we eat, there is a raise in the metabolism. BTW, that doesn't mean that eating more often will increase the metabolism. Just the amount we eat raises it. Again, men have it lucky. Their metabolism will raise quicker than ladies.

So the more you eat, the faster the metabolism....but it's all balance.

Sometimes excess calories don't turn to fat. People are different and all that.

You're one of the lucky ones Andy!

I know that when I got to goal with Cambridge, and raised calories, I didn't gain...nor lose. Just stayed the same at each level. I pushed it harder and harder. Gradually adding more and more, until I found the highest level I could eat at without a constant gain. For me that ended up being about 1800 cals, which is pretty much inline with what it should be.

It's a fascinating thing :)

I wouldn't say I was lucky! My metabolism doesn't always do this! I have at times found it hard to not gain weight.

Though I'll be most delighted if it carries on as it is (that is, I mean if I eat more than I might otherwise feel I should, I don't gain a shed load of weight).
