Giving blood on CD

Hi Lin,

Here you are...

Is it all right to continue the ‘Sole Source’ programme if giving blood?
The ‘Sole Source’ programme should not be followed for one week preceding blood donation and for one week after. In fact, a centre will refuse to take blood if they know the donor is on a very low calorie diet, because blood viscosity and volume are affected by the ‘Sole Source’ programme.

Ooohher, I'm not sure, but I'd sustain all the energy you have as you're on a low cal diet, I would think taking blood from someone on CD would make them faint! Can you not wait til you reach goal and do this as something as part of that goal? x

I asked this very question this morning Lin - apparently not, due to the low keytones.

Have a look on my thread - page 2 (Lexi explains it so much better)

Ps - it's funny you ask about it on the same day as me - did you get your letter through today too?

Hugs x x x

Hi
I normally give blood, but i'm not due to for another few months now.

I was thinking that I wouldn't do it on Sole Source - mainly because i wouldn't be able to have a nice cup of coffee and some biscuits after it!!

I cant give blood untill this Nov anyway as you have to wait a year after giving birth-cant wait to be able to give blood as I'll be at goal and through the maintence steps! scary thought but exciting!

It's been a few years since I have been able to give blood, due to one thing and another. Like you Angela, I've had to wait a year after giving birth, but I thought I'd be able to this summer. Looks like I'll have to wait a while longer.

They will appreciate my healthier blood when I'm able to give :)
